Tropic Air announces that its Punta Gorda Station will close effective November 1st, 2026. This difficult decision follows a review of the station’s operational performance in the context of the current economic and business climate. Despite efforts to sustain the service, operations in Punta Gorda are no longer commercially viable. The airline has operated the station with sustained losses but, given the uncertainty surrounding the long-term outlook for the domestic aviation industry, can no longer absorb losses it had previously been able to sustain. The closure reflects the need to make responsible operational decisions that support the airline’s long-term stability.
Tropic Air recognizes the importance of air connectivity to the Toledo District and understands the impact this decision will have on passengers, local businesses and tourism partners. The airline is grateful for the trust and support the community has extended to Tropic Air throughout its years of service in Punta Gorda.
“We do not take this decision lightly. For many years, we were proud to be the only airline serving Punta Gorda, and we did so at great expense. We are grateful to the community for its support throughout the many years,” said Max Greif, CEO of Tropic Air. “Unfortunately, the current business environment, together with the uncertainty created by proposed changes to Belize’s domestic aviation infrastructure, no longer allows us to continue absorbing losses that we had previously accepted in order to maintain this service.”
Tropic Air also extends its sincere appreciation to its Punta Gorda team for their dedication, professionalism and service to passengers and the wider community.
